Migrants at Work

A migrant’s work (like the proverbial charity) begins at home but does not end there.

The latest annual snapshot of social trends from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) found that migrants, who held a job in their own country before leaving, are more likely to be employed when they arrive in Australia.

Consequently, of those migrants who worked before they came to Australia, 71 per cent secured employment, compared with 50 per cent of those who did not have a job in their own country.

Nevertheless, success of any magnitude requires self-discipline, hard work, and a high degree of moral integrity.

The ABS data also found that the longer the period since arrival, the more likely migrants have obtained educational qualifications, improved their English proficiency, and developed a good knowledge of the labour market.
