On the Jobless Migrants

Unemployment is a significant problem for new migrants to Australia. The recent issue of the Australian Financial Review reports that migrants from North Africa and the Middle East have experienced unemployment rate of 12 per cent at a time when the national average rate is a little over 5 per cent.

Thus, the phenomenon of unemployment is not only a major disadvantage for migrants, it is the first basic step towards alienation and resentment, according to the report.

Yet, there are other implications. The new migrants are feeling the pinch of Unemployment which is psychologically damaging because it prolongs the process of adaptation and adjustment.
