Asylum Seekers and Human Rights

The proposed changes to the Migration Act to allow the offshore processing of all asylum seekers who arrive by boat - the so-called “Pacific Solution” – would undermine Australia’s commitment to human rights, according to the recent statement by the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity commission. It could also breach Australia’s obligation to protect children.

Miners Celebrate their First Day of Freedom

The mine rescue workers in Australia have done an amazing job under the most difficult circumstances, effectively saving precious lives.

And the trapped Beaconsfield miners, Brant Webb and Todd Russell, are now celebrating their first day of freedom after two weeks of entombment almost 1km underground.

This, indeed, is the greatest escape of all!
