Below the Poverty Line

Many welfare recipients in Australia are living below the poverty line, according to the University of Melbourne’s quarterly report.

The report shows that single people on unemployed benefits were living on $77.09 a week below the poverty line in the March quarter.

Unemployed couples without children were $28.23 worse off.

Not to be forgotten are the unemployed couples with children who (the report says) were on $31.39 a week below the poverty line.
